Crisis in Mental Health?

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel recently carried a front page story arguing there is a crisis in mental health treatment in Milwaukee County as a result of the closing and " ... elimination of a substantial number of hospital beds for acutely ill psychiatric patients."  The article has been criticized for failing to understand the need for a balanced treatment system that works best when there is ready access to long-term community support, acute inpatient treatment, rehabilitation, and safe and affordable housing.  In 2004, there are no new openings for long term community care and treatment.
